Free Range Chicken/Organic Poultry We offer free range chicken which has more health benefits since they are not reared in close confines eating manufactured grains. These chickens are raised completely different from ordinary supermarket chain chickens and you’ll taste the difference. The reason free range or organic chicken taste so good is that they are raised outside on pasture rather than crowded poultry houses. They have constant access to a natural diet and enjoy plenty of fresh air and sunshine. No artificial growth hormones are used and they do not feed on bone meal. They are by no means raised on antibiotics. These organic free range chickens mature at their natural pace and offer you outstanding taste and healthy meals. USDA rules are pretty lax when it comes to claims of free range; all they require is access to the outside. The birds we sell are strictly raised outside on pasture where they can scratch in the soil; eat green plants and whatever bugs they find. These birds are moved into clean grounds regularly. Raising chickens this way takes longer and this long growth period is the key factor in making the chicken taste so good! ....................................................................... SELECTION • Whole chickens should have a regular shape with a plump breast. Skin should be unblemished. • Look for packages without any pick-tinged liquid STORAGE • Keep fresh poultry in the coldest part of the refrigerator and use within 2 days. HANDLING • Poultry should be handled carefully to avoid the spread of bacteria. Always wash utensils, cutting boards, dishes and hands with hot soapy water after working with raw poultry. • Rinse the bird, its cavity or parts under cold running water. Remove excess deposits of fat. • Never thaw poultry at room temperature; defrost in refrigerator. Back to TOP
